The era of drone warfare being limited to nation-states with billion-dollar budgets is over. Proliferation of sophisticated, low-cost commercial drone technology has weaponized asymmetry. Conventional electronic warfare (EW) and jamming systems are predicated on severing a drone’s RF command and control link. Adversaries now universally employ fiber-optic tethers, providing an unjammable data link for precision terminal guidance. Other systems utilize pre-programmed, GPS-independent navigation, rendering jamming tactically irrelevant. These drones cannot be “hacked” or disabled electronically in their final, critical attack phase.
